Race Information

What:

First Annual Laramie Blizzard Blast is a fun running and walking event organized by the Laramie Blizzard Soccer Association to support youth soccer in the Laramie Area. The events will include a 5K run (3.1 miles), a 5K walk and a 10K run (6.2 miles). Costumes are strongly encouraged. Local runners, soccer youth, coaches and parents, students, and community members are encouraged to participate. Participants receive a short-sleeve technical wicking shirt and post-race party. There will also be awards and door prizes for participants.

Proceeds:

In the inaugural year, the majority of proceeds from the Laramie Blizzard Blast will support a former Blizzard and current Laramie High School player battling cancer. In future years, proceeds will be used for youth soccer scholarships.

The Laramie Blizzard Soccer Club strives to develop youth soccer players through positive reinforcement. We are delighted to develop our youth players into becoming not only top athletes, but also role models to the community. Honesty, integrity, and fair play are the foundation of our teaching.

When:

The race will be held on Sunday, October 21, starting at 9:00 AM, at the Laramie Blizzard Indoor Soccer Field, the Pitch. Race Day Registration opens at 8:00 am. The Pitch is located at 725 Skyline Road.

Registration:

Packet Pick Up:

Runners and walkers may pick up their race shirts and race packets on the Friday before the race or on race day. Pre Race Packet pick up will be Friday Oct 19th from 4 PM to 6:30 PM at the Personal Training Studio, 209 1st Street in downtown Laramie. Runners and walkers will also be able to preregister.

Event Course:

The 5K and 10K courses both start and end at the soccer pitch. The 10K is slightly hilly and meanders through local neighborhoods, open prairie and several of Laramie’s parks before returning to the pitch. The 5K is a shortened, mostly flat version of the 10K. Both courses are mostly on paved roads but have several sections on dirt (non-paved) roads. The event is sanctioned by USA Track and Field.

Post Race Party:

Coffee, treats and music by the local group Mumbletypeg will take place at The Soccer Pitch following the race. Costumes are encouraged for all races and the post-race party.

Awards and Prizes:

There will be overall awards, age group awards for first place AND.... a special award for the Best Costume, the Blizzard Team with the most participants, and the Blizzard Coach with the fastest 5K and 10K time!!!!! Door Prizes will also be available for all participants due to the generosity of local merchants and supporters.

Sanctioning:

This event is sanctioned by USA Track and Field.

Weather:

Weather in the Laramie area in October is variable. The average low in October is 32° F and the average high is 57° F. Race day may turn out to be a beautiful fall morning or include snowfall-- such the name THE BLIZZARD BLAST. Please check the weather and dress in layers. Race will occur snow or shine. Please don’t let the weather deter you!
